The interesting part is taking traditional quilting techniques and adding a modern twist...

a spark of inspiration long long ago. I studied studio art and art history in college and ended up with an Art History degree from Hope College.  During my senior year I did an internship with an interior designer in New York and realize now that the hours I spent exploring the fabric showrooms on Lexington Ave started my interest in fabric.  I learned to quilt after moving to New Hampshire in 1996 and for many years made traditional quilts as a hobby and pursued plein air oil painting professionally.  Then at some point I started experimenting with fabric collage and now it has become my primary medium.  I feel like I'm painting with fabric  by using the skills I learned as a painter and a quilter.
