My work begins with an observation, experience or object that I happen upon, which is why I work in collage.  It is both a spontaneous and an improvisational medium.  I start with a pile of fabrics, a pair of scissors and an idea and go from there.  Collage is a perfect medium for mixing new and old materials, subject matter and design elements -  adding fabric to the mix enhances the final piece with texture and pattern.  I think that viewers respond to my work because it depicts the familiar in an unusual medium.
